The Manky Bastard – Bass Distortion

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

This came about after a friend of mine asked me to build him a dirty monstrosity for Bass Guitars.

Dave from Empires was also missing a pedal to make his sound a bit more manky.

The inspiration came from two different circuits.

1. The ever so simple Bazz Fuss circuit as detailed here and laid out for veroboard/stripboard here

2. The blend control so kindly donated by Aen of Dwarfcraft Devices fame. The man is a genius, just have a look at a few of his creations on youtube or browse his forum over here.

Most of the parts were sought from Das Musikding and Banzai Effects and put together as usual.

The box was finished by using automotive paint and primer, a waterslide decal, spray on clearcoat and a toaster oven. For my next build I’ll definitely use ‘paint on’ clearcoat, should hopefully stop it from bubbling so much.

Still, the finish suits it.

Here’s the pics!

Mmmm

Sex. Rowboat.

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

Recently, I informed a friend of mine that I’d be spending a steamy Saturday night in with a soldering iron.

He replied “Are you building a sex robot?”

I considered the project officially named.

DIY Stompbox I

Thank you shortscale.org!

SaltboostSaltboostSaltboostSaltboost

This is my first DIY Stompbox.

It’s a Saltbooster as described here. Developed by a knowledgeable gentleman called Mike Livesley, who also kindly posted a schematic, stripboard layout and wiring guide on the forum so that idiots like me could clone his creation.

The wiring is wonderfully sloppy and the pot is still wired up the wrong way but until it possesses me to fix it, it’s staying as it is.
